ISAF Offshore safety and survival training

In order to sail the Fastnet yacht race ( category 2 offshore race ) 50 % of the yachts crew will need offshore safety and survival training within 5 years of the Fastnet start.

On the 11th and 12th of May Martin, Andy, Fiona, Nicky & Nigel will be attending the course at Hamble.

The training covers a wide range of topics including fire on board, man overboard & recovery, signaling, life rafts life jackets, using them and there deployment, abandoning ship, flares, avoiding disaster and more.

This will also be a chance for the 5 British crew to get to know each other as a team for the first time.

Nicky & Nigel will be traveling to Southsea Friday afternoon, this also gives us the opportunity to help Martin with a few minor Jobs on Jubilant.

Day 1

The first day covers survival at sea, around 5 hours in class and 2 hours in the pool.

A very educational day, anyone sailing offshore really should consider taking these courses.

Day 2

The second day covers safety at sea, heavy weather sailing, emergency equipment, man overboard, seasickness, emergency procedures & running aground. Around 6 hours in classroom 1 hour outside.
