Since 1979 and the Fastnet disaster, safety has become a major component in the race new safety devices being added regularly. Everything possible is enforced to make the challenge as safe as possible, but every time you leave the dock there is an element of risk involved.

A new addition each crew member will also need a personal MOB1 AIS beacon, in the rare event of a man over board and lost, the person can be tracked & located on the ships AIS chartplotter.

Martin, Nicola, Fiona, Andy and Nigel will be attending the ocean safety & survival course, Andy already trained in first aid.

5 of the crew and the mascots are members of http://www.sailonline.org which is where the first idea of a Fastnet team came about in 2012.
